  • NEVER go shopping alone 👫 👯‍♀️

Personally, I experienced many situation whereby “Buying 2 is cheaper than buying 1 or Buy 1 Free 1” promotion when I was looking for clothes. In many time, I ended up window shopping and buying nothing because I was shopping alone and nobody to share the cost of another same piece of item with me. Hence, I would suggest you always find your buddies or “Brader” to go shopping with you.

  • Pay with Credit Card 💳

“Cash Is King!” – this is no more the case. Paying cash for the groceries doesn’t create any extra value for the consumers. Meanwhile, smart consumers choose to settle the bill with credit card. Credit Card is not only giving you extra buying power, it earns you points and cashback! Do take note if there is any rewarding programme set up between the bank and your preferred grocery store. I show you an example here.

Do you notice that the shopping carts are actually bigger than required? Promoters are giving out free samples, especially snacks for your kid? Raya Songs are played repeatedly? Shop online if you have a tight Raya Budget. Without the temptations of sights, taste and hearing, most probably you would only purchase what’s on your shopping list.

Advantages of Having Credit Cards in Pocket

When the concept of credit card was first introduced to the Malaysian, there was a misconception whereby the owner of the credit card must be wealthy! It used to be a measurement tool for a personal wealth because only people with certain level of income are able to own it. Yet, that level was high at the beginning!

This is no more the case now since we are now in 2018, an era which we promote cashless transaction in daily lives. Beside that, the minimum income level to apply for a credit card had been greatly marked down. Even a student without stable income could get a supplementary credit card from his/her parent(s). There are actually a lot of advantages if the credit card holder is able to control his/her credit spending.

Free/ Discounted Movie Ticket

There are a few bank in Malaysia rewarding their credit card holders with discounted movie ticket prize, popcorn or “Buy 1 Free 1” when the holders visit specified cinema. We list down a few for you here.

You can enjoy a Friday movie together with your loved one at the price of 1 ticket, applied for both GSC and TGV.

MBO Movie Ticket sells at RM 8 Everyday except National Public Holidays*

RM 5 per movie ticket, 280 complimentary tickets per Offer Day.*

Flat RM7 for 1 (One) Normal Adult ticket*

(*) Check its official website for more T&C.

  • Free/ Discounted Parking Fee

Sunway Putra Mall in KL offers free parking for the first 3 hours & free parking for HSBC credit cardholders when you spend any amount at any outlet. You need to validate the parking ticket at the information counter and at the autopay machine.

  • Build Your Credit Score

A credit score plays an important role when you want to apply for a financial product from the bank including a personal loan, mortgage, car loan, or credit card. Banks, financial institutions, and even businesses use your credit score to evaluate the credibility of your financial health. It helps them understand the risks they might face if they decide to lend money to you. The higher your score is, the better it is and the higher the chance of getting your application approved. Essentially, it is an indicator of your financial health.

  • Extra Discount/ Free Gift Upon Purchase

There are many retailers (restaurant, boutique, airline company, hotel & etc) collaborate with different banks in order to give more rewards to the consumers. Be alert and look for any such kind of notice board or always ask the cashier the availability of such credit card promotion before making payment. Besides that, you could login to the official website of respective bank to get more update for the updates you deserve!

  • MYR, SGD, Thai Baht, Canadian Dollar…

Instead of having to figure out the best days to change the currencies of your destination countries, you can save yourself a decent amount of time by using your credit card overseas. However, you need to differentiate between foreign transaction fee and dynamic currency conversion before spending in your destination countries.

When a transaction is made in a foreign currency, the transaction will be converted into ringgit using US dollar as the base currency on the date of the transaction received and processed by card issuers as well as payment networks (American Express, Visa, and MasterCard).

In short, if you pay in Ringgit when you are spending overseas, it is DCC. If you are paying in foreign currency, you will be charged with foreign transaction fee which is cheaper than the former.
